About this Event
Join us for the second in our spring Social Justice series focusing on the power student activism. For our March event, we are focusing on the Civil Rights Movement with a screening of excerpts of the documentary, February one (2004). Following the screening, there will be a discussion with Dr. Cathy Bueker, Professor of Sociology, Dr. Jeff Fortin, Associate Professor of History, and Dr. Petros Vamvakas, Associate Professor of Political Science.
Cosponsored by the Sociology Department, History Department, Department of Political Science & International Studies, Mission & Ministry, Sociology Club, Youth in Government, Emmanuel Minorities in Stem, Law and Legal Studies Club, and the Library Learning Commons.
About the Documentary:
"Based largely on first hand accounts and rare archival footage, February One documents that sit-in that not only challenged public accommodation customs and laws in North Carolina, but served as a blueprint for the wave of non-violent civil rights protests that swept across the South and the nation throughout the 1960s"(bit.ly/ECFeb1).
