Presentation and Discussion with Somali Refugee, Deeqo Jibril

Presentation and discussion with Deeqo Jibril.

Ms. Jibril was born in Somalia and at age 12 came to the US as a refugee of the civil war in Somalia. She is now a successful entrepreneur, social activist and humanitarian. In 2017 she ran to be Boston’s first Muslim City Counselor, and while she was not elected, she is continuously paving the way for social justice here in Boston. She has contributed to the campaigns of Senator Elizabeth Warren, Senator Jarrett Barrios’, and Governor Deval Patrick. In 2011 she was chosen as one of the “Unsung Heroines” by the Massachusetts Commissioner on the Status of Women. Ms. Jibril now works in City Hall with the Mayor, is the founder of the Somali Community and Cultural Association, and started her own business, the African Mall. Ms. Jibril continuously works to support Somali families and has recently returned from a trip to Somalia where she helped supply the resources for building water management systems in impoverished communities.

Ms. Jibril truly embodies what the One World Strong Foundation and Club stand for and we are honored to have her speak to us. So, do not miss this opportunity to listen to this incredible woman's story and speak with her in person!
