Join us in June for a four-part book group where we will discuss Safiya Umoja Noble's Algorithms of Oppression.

  • "Algorithmic oppression is not just a glitch in the system but, rather, is fundamental to the operating system of the web. It has direct impact on users and our lives beyond using Internet applications" (Noble, 2018, p. 10).

Safiya Umoija Noble is Assistant Professor of Information Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles and was recently featured in the Nova episode Beyond the Search: The Biases Inside Google’s Algorithms.  

Reading recommended but not required to attend. 

  • June 3rd - Introduction and Chapter 1
  • June 10th - Chapters 2 and 3
  • June 17th - Chapters 4 and 5
  • June 24th - Chapter 6 and Conclusion
