David Bindman, Professor Emeritus, University College London and a senior fellow at the Hutchins Center for African and African American Research, Harvard University will give a lecture at the Cardinal Cushing Library Lecture Hall, Oct 2, 2014, 4:30pm.
The 18th century saw a massive transformation in attitudes to Africans, especially in England. In the visual arts the situation was rich and complex, with traditions resisting and adapting to the new climate, as can be seen in the work of the most famous artists of the time.
