Stephan Jacobs

Stephan Jacobs, Professor of Photography at Emmanuel College, earned an MFA from the Massachusetts College Art and a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. Jacobs has been a visiting artist at several workshops and fellowships, notably an artist’s residence with the Culture and Arts Project NOASS in Riga, Latvia and a master’s workshop in photography at the George Eastman House in Rochester, NY.

Stephan’s work has been reviewed and/or published in Art News, The Washington Post, Tokion, the Boston Globe, and The Bauhaus Journal. He is the recipient of multiple awards for his photography including a Prentice & Paul Sack Foundation Award, Mumm-Cuvee Visions of Excellence Award, Friends of Photography / Ruttenberg Arts Foundation Award, and a recipient of an Emerging Artist Award from the St. Botolph Club Foundation. In 2016, Jacobs was nominated as a Fulbright Specialist to lead a workshop in historic photographic practices at the renowned Bauhaus University in Weimar, Germany.

His photographic works have appeared in numerous exhibitions including the

LeRoy Neiman Gallery NYC, Gallery Kayafas in Boston, Art Basel/Miami, FIFI Projects NYC, Madrid Foto, and the Latvian Museum of Naive Art. In 2016 Jacobs’ work was exhibited at the Boston Latvian Church and International Photography Festival, Jaffa Port, Israel.

"Full Circle" is a series of photographs that are part of two initial installments of a larger document which strives to present correlative relationships of politics, economics, health and culture. Created in the city of Stephan's wife’s birth, Riga (Latvia) is at the historical crossroads of Western and Eurasian culture and politics: an intense microcosm of identity conflict and a flashpoint of North American, European & Russian relations.
